Tanna Projects is an Australian and Vanuatu Christadelphian registered charity, dedicated to working cooperatively with the wonderful, gentle, people living in the area of Loanialu (approx 552m above sea level) and surrounding villages, of Tanna Island, Vanuatu.
Our main aim is to provide positive leadership opportunities and enable the people to find solutions for the some of the numerous challenges they face on a day to day basis, while living in such a remote area.
The nearby active volcano, Mt Yasur, spews volcanic ash every day over the area, making it difficult to grow enough food to sustain the community.
Sustainable agriculture is problematic and difficult to achieve but, with perseverance and community involvement, we aim to develop more effective methods of growing food that will not be affected by ash. This ash inhibits the growth by stopping the translocation of the nutrients from the leaves to the root of the plant.
